We are going through some challenges as Coronavirus spreads all over the world. It makes sense for us to be braced and have knowledge on best approaches to help our body fight the virus, in case it will be needed. We put together several informations and research content about supplements that can help fighting virus infections for you.

What this is:

we all know what this is. Vitamin C has also been discussed here as a cancer treatment option.

The potential of Vitamin C:

The most noticed fatal complication on coronavirus patients appears to be sepsis, causing a pro-inflammatory responses of the immune system (Ref.)Acting in a pro-inflammatory way, means that the immune cells are overreacting. The overreaction needs to be up-regulated with glycolisis (fermentation) (Ref.)

Vitamin C holds back glycolisis (fermentation) (Ref.)  Check out a list of other impediments here: (Ref.)

Viruses create ER-stress (Ref.) which needs and results in upregulating glycolsis and lipogenesis (Ref, Ref) As already pointed out above, Vitamin C inhibits glycolsis needed during viral replication and ER-stress.

In fact, Vitamin C has a proven effect on virus patients, check out this clinical study on 463 patients displaying that very high doses of Vitamin C taken orally (6 grams/day) could decrease or hold back the symptoms coming with viral infection, tested on the common flu (Ref.)

Besides that, vitamin c also has an positive impact on the survival rate in sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) (Ref.)

How to apply and dose:

According to study mentioned before, I would recommend taking 6 grams/day (one every hour) in the first days the symptoms are present. After that you should reduce the dose as symptoms decrease. Please Note: high doses of Vitamin C can cause diarrhoea. If this side effect appears to show, try to spread the 6g dose over more than 6 hours.
